Quartz or quartzite?
The names are close; the materials are not. Quartz is engineered from roughly 90–95% ground quartz bound with resin, so it never needs sealing, but it is less heat-tolerant. Quartzite is 100% natural stone, so every slab has its own veining, and it gives you a marble look that is harder than granite and resists etching.
- Marble look, tougher than granite. Strong natural veining without marble’s soft, easily etched surface.
- Heat and scratch resistant. Natural quartzite is very hard-wearing.
- Natural variation. No two slabs are the same, so a small sample never shows the whole piece.
- The trade-off: like other natural stone, quartzite needs a periodic seal, and spills should be wiped up.
If you want zero sealing, quartz countertops in San Antonio are the low-upkeep choice, with trivets by the stove. If you want natural stone that often costs less per square foot, compare our granite countertops. The countertop buying guide lays out every material side by side.

Pairing quartzite with your cabinets
The rule of thumb from our cabinet color guide: only one of the two should be busy. A bold quartzite such as Azul Treasure or Crytos wants a quiet, solid cabinet color, while soft whites such as Cristallo or White Macaubas work with any of the three finishes we keep in stock: Shaker White, Shaker Gray and Navy Blue. The other 33 of our 36 finishes arrive in 1–2 weeks.
San Antonio sun matters too. Kitchens with lots of direct sun do better with lighter quartz or quartzite, and our hot, humid summers make keeping the seal up more important on any natural stone.
How a quartzite countertop job works
Pick your slab
Choose a color here or from the samples at the showroom, ideally next to your cabinet door. Every piece of quartzite is different.
Template
We measure the installed cabinets precisely so seams, the sink and the overhangs land exactly right.
Fabricate
The slab is cut and edged, with cutouts for the sink, cooktop and faucet. Choose the edge profile now; it can’t change after install.
Install & seal
Our own crews set the stone, join the seams, anchor the sink and seal the top, usually in one day. Allow 24–48 hours before running the sink at full pressure.
Installation by our crews carries our 3-year workmanship warranty in the greater San Antonio area, and your quote gives the timeline for your job.
